New Bass Music mix: Kongkast # 236 – feat. MAGIC MIRSCH (N-ice / Dresden, Germany)

Magic Mirsch, Dj, Producer and Promoter based in Dresden has a keen for bass driven electronic music. Influenced by a local Radio show he started spinning dark electro and chill out sounds in the very beginning. Later he found his own Radio Show with a friend which he left after about 5 years. When Dubstep and Grime became huge in UK he started promoting his own events to bring that kind of sound to his hometown. He became Part of Dubolution and Reload and presented some of the state of the art artists that time.
He met his Dj companion Brad Pitch and they both started producing Music and found their own Party Series DD-Funky to present Bassline House and Uk Funky.
In 2014 he became Part of N-ice events – a project of enthusiasts who want to present their taste of music to a broader Audience in eastern Germany.

Many thanks to MAGIC MIRSCH for this exclusive mix for Kongkretebass Kongkast!

New Footwork mix: Kongkast # 235 – feat. BANZULU (None60, SUB:CULTURE / Tallahassee, United States)

Forming together like a two-man Voltron, Banzulu is the project of Florida-based DJs/Producers Abe Vazquez and Caleb Selman. As founding members of the SUB:CULTURE collective, they have been pushing bass-heavy sounds in their home state for several years, and have been instrumental in advancing the footwork sound there. First surfacing on Phyla Digital’s “Jack to Juke” Compilation earlier this year, Banzulu are just now beginning to make moves in the scene. Their sound is heavily influenced by the growing footwork movement, but they also draw from UK bass music sounds (including Grime, Garage and Jungle), as well as regional influences such as Southern Hip Hop, Chopped and Screwed, etc.

Many thanks to BANZULU for this exclusive mix for Kongkretebass Kongkast!

New Various mix: Kongkast # 233 – feat. FADED GHOST aka ChaCha (SVBKVLT, Hyperdub, Jahtari / Shanghai, China)

We’ve been very excited since we received this mix a few weeks ago. In our opinion, the producer/DJ/Vocalist is definitely one of the most talented people in the Music scene within China and Asia, we have an exclusive mix by Faded Ghost aka ChaCha (SVBKVLT, Hyperdub, Jahtari / Shanghai, China).

Having met up with ChaCha and Drunk Monk in Shanghai earlier this year, and witnessing one of the best experimental sets in Shanghai by Faded Ghost, we are honored to have her onboard for KONGKAST on this solo mix.

A broad and exciting project, Faded Ghost has no set rules or style, often resulting in unpredictable and surprising results.

As a producer and live performer, she creates collages of sounds using field recordings as well as self-taught production techniques using various analog and digital hardware, blending together her many influences and ideas into abstract compositions that don’t stick to the usual borders and templates of genre.

As a DJ, Faded Ghost plays selections of upfront sounds, from the new strain of hip hop and experimental dance music, to unreleased tracks from her contemporaries and musical friends she has met along her journey so far. A resident at Shanghai’s Sub-Culture night, as well as the newly formed Lost Cargo crew, Faded Ghost stays on the fringe of the quickly evolving musical landscape in China whilst staying cohesive and accessible for the dancefloor.

Many thanks to FADED GHOST / CHACHA for this exclusive mix for Kongkretebass Kongkast!

About FADED GHOST aka ChaCha:

Faded Ghost is the producer/DJ pseudonym of Shanghai based vocalist ChaCha.

About ChaCha
Over the last 6 or 7 years, ChaCha has quickly become one of the most exciting and celebrated independent artists to come out of China. A vocalist and musician since a very young age, ChaCha has managed to break out of the usually quite sheltered music scene in her hometown of ZunYi, GuiZhou and has made musical waves around the world.

Since moving to Shanghai in 2005 and joining China’a largest bass music crew, Uprooted Sunshine/Sub-Culture, she has been exposed to a huge variety of music at her regular spot, The Shelter, and has naturally adopted these styles and genres like no other local artist. From recording with international artists such as Clive Chin, Kode9, Adrian Sherwood, Disrupt, The Bug, Rumi, Hamacide, Vibronics and Desto, to releasing music on labels such as VP/Randy’s, Hyperdub, Jahtari, 502 and Tokyo’s Black Smoker Records, she also keeps her feet firmly rooted in the local scene and works closely with Chinese artists such as Wordy Soulspeak, Webber, In3, A-Long and Chee Productions (of which she is also a member).

In 2010 ChaCha teamed up with Dutch producer Jay.Soul and formed AM444, a genre bending group that, although many seem to label it as ‘trip-hop’ or ‘downbeat’, has just as much in common with dub sounds
and ‘bass music’ as it does with some of her favorite groups and earliest influences such as Portishead and Massive Attack. The duo released their first EP, Eye Wonder, in 2011, and their first full length album
ROOMS in 2012, both on Shanghai’s PAUSE:MUSIC, and have received radio play and support from all over Asia, Europe and beyond. She was also honored by being the first ever mainland Chinese artist to be accepted into the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid in 2011. This opened her mind and opportunities even further are saw her work together with fellow alumni such as Doc Daneeka, XXXY, Phoebe Kiddo, Nick Hook, Jessie Boykins III, Paze and more, as well as seeing her perform at several of the RBMA events. Having access to a great variety or equipment and talented advisors also lead to her starting her new
solo project and alias, ‘Faded Ghost’, a dark, droned out vocal experiment the likes of which are very different to anything coming out of the PRC.

Her talent and various projects have seen her perform all over China and Asia, including Japan, Thailand, Korea and Manila, as well as the Worldtronics festival in Berlin, Sakifo Festival on Reunion Island and club gigs in UK, Germany and Spain. Having just returned from Tokyo after making serious waves and connections in the scene there, and with a Europe tour in the works, in 2013 expect to hear a lot more from ChaCha!

Kongkast 216 featuring: Semper-Fi (Foreigndub / Aus) – A former Toronto (Canada) native and now Sydney resident made his way to Australia in 1998 bringing along a battered drum kit, some killer ragga jungle vinyl, rave inflicted tinnitus and a Music Engineering School degree.
With a formidable reputation as a skilled DJ and producer in the local drum n’ bass, hip-hop, dubstep, reggae, dub and any other bass style currently vying for a micro-genre scene. A regular face in the Sydney DJ circuit, Semper-Fi can be seen performing at nights including Basscode, Blueprint, DNBBQ, Void, his own infrequent Jungle Genius nights and numerous raves over the years. As well as supporting dub reggae legends like Sly & Robbie and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry & Mad Professor; New Zealand’s finest in Fat Freddy’s Drop and Salmonella Dub; dubstep bass-heads DJ Pinch, LD, Appleblim and Mark Pritchard, as well hip-hop cats like DJ MK (Roots Manuva) and drum n’ bass fanatics Rockwell and D-Kay among others.

DJ Semper-Fi returns with his second track from the upcoming Shock Doctrine EP on Foreigndub. Teaming up with MC Rayjah45 (Sweet Az Soundsystem, Kakhand, The Nomad), ‘Champion’ busts out a rough n’ready dancehall / reggae / drum’n’bass hybrid. It’s the second of a series of tracks Semper-Fi is releasing in the coming months, following on from the first single ‘Shock Doctrine’ and setting the stage for upcoming releases with The Herd’s Ozi Batla and Kye of Budspells.

You can check out his track ‘Champion feat. Rayjah45’, currently a free download on Semper-Fi’s SoundCloud. The full EP is set for release on Foreigndub in early 2014.

Since arriving he’s carved out a formidable reputation as a skilled DJ and producer in the local drum n’ bass, hip-hop, dubstep, reggae, dub and any other bass style currently vying for a micro-genre scene. Think nights like Basscode, Blueprint, DNBBQ, Void, his own infrequent Jungle Genius nights and numerous raves over the years.

He began things in 2000, taking out the Bedroom Bangers local DJ comp, affording him his first MPC. With his DJ credentials now award winning he then went on to support dub reggae legends like Sly & Robbie and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry & Mad Professor; New Zealand’s finest in Fat Freddy’s Drop and Salmonella Dub; dubstep bass-heads DJ Pinch, LD, Appleblim and Mark Pritchard, as well hip-hop cats like DJ MK (Roots Manuva) and drum n’ bass fanatics Rockwell and D-Kay among others.

Always on the look out for new music Semper-Fi has been known to throw one out in the studio himself. In the late 00’s he teamed up with Philadelphia’s MC Halfcast and the pair released a self-titled EP seamlessly melding hip-hop, dancehall and drum n’ bass. Others liked what they heard leading to bass friendly remixes for Arrested Development, Western Synthetics, Astronomy Class, The Bird and Budspells.

More info about FRANJAZZCO:

As he tends to keep things low and is not too keen on any sort of hype shit, you might not have recognized him yet – though, Franjazzco (formerly known as Franz „Jazzin“ Otto) has definitely been one of the most passionate and enthusiastic players in Vienna’s underground dance music scene within the last decade.

Franjazzco’s been doing his thing on the ones and twos since way back in 1995. Besides being a DJ, the past has also seen him as event promoter, radio host, editor and recently especially as a producer. Whilst Franjazzco covers a wide range of musical genres as a DJ, ranging from Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop to House, Techno and various styles of Bass music, he’s mostly dedicating his productions to Chicago’s sound of Juke and Footwork.

His tracks have recently been released on Disko404 records and the World Wide Juke compilations and earned massive feedback by the likes of DJ Rashad, Machinedrum, Distal, Chrissy Murderbot or RP Boo. Further releases and his own label Footwork Frenzy are about to come in the near future.

New TEKLIFE / Jungle mix: Kongkast # 209 – feat. TASO (Hyperdub, Muti Music / SF, USA)

We’re back this week with a very special guest – TASO (Hyperdub, Muti Music / SF, USA).
As part of the TEKLIFE crew, TASO has made quite a name for himself recently. Having massive DJ support coming from some of the biggest names in the industry, along with chart topping, highly coveted tunes on the internet, this is definitely an artist to pay very close attention to.

We discovered some of his music through his Facebook page: TASO – “Greatest” Hits 2013 [Free Download], which at least I can say, is one of the best albums available for free download anywhere to be found. The heavy track listing includes collaboration with DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, DJ Eral, and many others. We highly recommend if you haven’t heard it yet, go download it for free from his Facebook page.

In the recent months, TASO have had a string of high profile releases, including a Dubstep EP ” LB4$” on Muti Music, and the most recent collaborations with DJ Rashad on his new album “Double Cup” which is out on HyperDub.

You can check out more of his Music from his SoundCloud site, which currently includes a brand new Jungle/ Jazz / Bass Fusion track called  TASO – SaxXx [Free Download],

We hope our listeners will enjoy this mix as much as we did! Don’t forget to check out TASO’s pages for more info. (Links below)

About TASO:

Taso has made quite a name for himself recently. Having massive DJ support coming from some of the biggest names in the industry, along with chart topping, highly coveted tunes on the internet, this is definitely an artist to pay very close attention to. There is jazz buried between the crevasses of Taso’s music, and his work resounds with a feeling of distinct street beat crossed with the substance of technical virtuosity. His sounds are trunk-busting, slow rhyme inducing, pop-and-lock, deep, West Coast breaks. In a flash, Taso’s use of synths, samples and drums proves razor sharp as any contender in the big bass alleyway of top ten lists across the EDM globe. You will always find the crowd shouting and singing to Taso’s beats at his shows, while he raps on the mic and cuts it up on the 1s and 2s with proper precision. In 2012, Taso was asked to join and represent Teklife and is the only member representing this notorious crew on the West Coast. With all that being said, this is one boss young gun to be on the lookout for.

New Bass Music mix: Kongkast # 207 – feat. Panda Lassow (ANUS Recordings / Rotterdam)

Today’s guest mix is not our usual dubstep or drum & bass-flavour, but bass heavy non-the-less! It comes from the lovely Panda Lassow, a German lass who relocated to Rotterdam, Netherlands, about 4 years ago.

As a Dj, producer & live beat maker, Panda Lassow draws inspiration from various genres like Bass, Jungle, Dub, Experimental Hip Hop Beats, Future Funk, Psychedelic and many more, which usually makes it hard to give her choice of selection and productions a one-word-description. We remember her from the recent Laptop-Battle Dresden, where she made it to the podium as 2nd runner-up, with an incredibly fun & futuristic track.

Staying true to her love for vinyl records, she not only recorded this Podcast the old-fashioned way, but also runs her own vinyl-only label ANUS Records, where she has been able to publish some of her own work, with more in the pipeline. Big up!

Check it out and enjoy the mix!

More about Panda Lassow :

Rotterdam-based and vinyl-only DJ and producer Panda Lassow aka Petra Lundawerk generally plays all types of Bass music.
As her experimental electronic music alter ego Petra Lundawerk she started DJing in 2004 while studying in Dresden, Germany. Influenced by Dresden-based musicians like Kern, Mr. Incognito and Credit 00, she started making music herself in 2008. From 2010 till 2012 she was publishing her own podcast called Wunschkonzert IEM Podcast. Some co-workings with Frankfurt/Main based producer Suspicion Breeds Confidence, Berlin-based producer and artist Grischa Lichtenberger and London-based artist Italia Rossi followed.
The Dub and Drum’n’Bass-scene of Dresden never lost attraction. Influenced by that, but always forward-looking, she explored herself in different genres like Bass, Jungle, Dub, Experimental Hip Hop Beats, Future Funk, Psychedelic and many more.
New influences came with moving to Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2009. Since 2012 she owns her own vinyl-only label named ANUS Records with recently having two releases – her own first EP and one from Australian-based producer Tuff Sherm aka Dro Carey. As part of The Beatmakers Union (TBMU) in Rotterdam she takes part live-beatmaking sessions and is connected to local beatmakers – new co-workings and releases coming soon tho.
