New Drum & Bass mix: Kongkast # 174 – feat. STRAY (Warm Communications, Critical, Invisible, Med School / UK)

Yup Yup! We are back into swing of things after our “Month of Dresden” Series.
And now, we’ll be going back with our regular schedules, the only thing is… the mix we have for you this week is anything BUT regular.

This week, we are very excited to have received this mix from one of our recent favorite producers straight out of UK – STRAY (Warm Communications, Critical, Invisible, Med School  / UK).

Showing stunning musical ability well beyond his 22 years, London producer Stray exploded on to the drum and bass scene back in 2009 with the release of “Timbre” on Kasra’s Critical Music label. Fast forward three years and Stray’s productions have been championed by such drum and bass luminaries as Goldie, Rockwell, Alix Perez, Calyx and Teebee, as well as earning him the attention of BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, resulting in the release of ‘Break your Legs’ on his Brownswood Records imprint last year.

Check out Stray’s upcoming release on Warm Communications, featuring Halogenix  The Pursuit b/w Poison is two of the most forward thinking drum & bass tracks yet to come from Stray, as well as Halogenix. (for those who might remember, Halogenix was a recent guest on Kongkast #162).

More info about STRAY:

Showing stunning musical ability well beyond his 22 years, London producer Stray exploded on to the drum and bass scene back in 2009 with the release of “Timbre” on Kasra’s Critical Music label. Fast forward three years and Stray’s productions have been championed by such drum and bass luminaries as Goldie, Rockwell, Alix Perez, Calyx and Teebee, as well as earning him the attention of BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, resulting in the release of ‘Break your Legs’ on his Brownswood Records imprint last year.

Whether it’s the delicate and sparse keys of “Pushed”, which debuted on dBridge and Instra:Mental’s critically acclaimed Fabric Live 50 mix, the brutal jungle of his remix of Jazzsteppa feat. The Foreign Beggars’ “Raising the Bar” (Studio Rockers), or the massive tech Neurofunk of “Saturday”, released on Noisia’s Invisible imprint, Stray has fast established himself as one of the most diverse and forward thinking DJ/producers in drum and bass today.

Stray’s most recent offering “Oblique/St. Clair”, co-produced with Sabre and Halogenix, debuted in February on Critical Music. Amongst its fans is Metalheadz CEO Goldie, who commented that (Oblique) “touches the very nerve of the craft of this music drum and bass; many years from now when we look back this tune will be a ‘waypoint’ of the times.
