This week on Kongkast, I am delighted to bring you one of my recently discovered favourite producers (though I am shamefully late on this!). Noise808 emerging from the neon-drenched, high-stakes landscape of the world’s gambling capital – Macau, China.

Since the reboot of Kongkast, I have been looking everywhere for new and exciting artists, whose sound resonates with my own.
The name Noise808 was already known to me many years ago, but it was just before Kongkast took a long hiatus. Since then, Noise808 have definitely progressed further as an artist.

His latest EP – TIME – on his Bandcamp (CLICK HERE) features two stunning Dubstep tracks (Geiger and Dissociated) that is (IMO) worthy of prime time DJ slot.
This studio mix provide by Noise808 is a great show case of what he is capable of doing in the studio, with a wide range of music styles, but keeping in tune with his own unique sounds. With such depth and unique styles, I can only imagine he can get further with time and more heavy releases such as the “Time” Ep.

Having met Common Mob locally in Dresden, Kongkretebass and Wash were interested in finding out more about the current state of Dubstep in the local scene. Though Dubstep is not as mainstream nowadays, it is always good to see the younger DJs and Promoters pushing the sounds they truly believe in.

More info about Common Mob:

Common Mob is a DJ, producer, and event curator rooted in the realms of bass music and sound system culture. Coming up in the Erzgebirge/Krušné hory region, his early exposure to subculture came via Turbojugend Oberpöbel – first behind the bar, then behind the decks. Shaped by Dresden’s free party and Tekno scene, he co-founded Pamb Sound System and later Subkontra, a collective and festival platform pushing heavyweight sonics from across Europe. His musical explorations lead him to raves, club nights and festivals, always commited to the underground and a raw DIY spirit.

His sets draw from grime, dubstep, electro, 160 and acid-tinged hybrids – bass-heavy, percussive and vocally charged. A member of rap collective Kreis01 and host of shows on Infame Radio and Subtle Radio, Common Mob is driven by the mission to cultivate collective movement through sound.

We’re back this week with one of our favourite DJs in South East Asia. One of the names that you no doubt hear when you ask about Dubstep, Drum & Bass or Bass Music in Asia. Our long time friend DJ Dragon (Dubway, Ukemi Records / Thailand).
Dragon should be no stranger to any of our listeners. One of the pioneers of Bass Music in Thailand, having kick started with Homebass Communications, Dragon has hosted some of the biggest names to date, such as DJ SS, L Double, Goth-Trad. Kode 9, Pinch and lots more.

Dragon continues to innovate and take his sounds to different levels, playing cross genres from eclectic 120bpm bass to hard-hitting frantic Drum & Bass. With his diverse taste in music, he now runs his own Record store – Ukemi Records, which showcases some if his personal favourite music as well as promote the underground music to the masses in Thailand.

Mongkorn Timkul, aka DJ Dragon, has been active in Thailand’s drum and bass scene since the early 2000s. Back then, Dragon – the name he’s known by in the music scene – organized some of Bangkok’s first drum and bass events with his crew Homebass Communications. The collective, comprising DJ Wen and MC Abu, hosted drum and bass pioneers DJ SS, Jon B, L Double, Aphrodite, and Mickey Finn. Dragon and DJ Wen also hosted Homebass – a radio show featuring regular guest DJs from Bangkok. The show was broadcast on Fat Radio 104.5 and is considered to be Thailand’s first electronic music radio show.

In 2008, Dragon started Dubway Sessions, an event series that showcased a broader spectrum of dubwise music. The event featured DJs such as Goth-Trad, Pinch, Kode 9, and Alpha Steppa. In 2018, Dubway Sessions celebrated its 10th anniversary with Deep Medi head honcho Mala. Fast forward to the present day, Dragon is still regarded as a driving force in Bangkok’s underground music scene. On the decks, Dragon continues to innovate and take his sound to new heights. Clubbers can expect Dragon to rock everything from eclectic 120 bpm bass beats to hard-hitting, frantic drum and bass. Dragon can be seen gracing the decks at Bangkok’s top underground venues like Beam, Rover, and De Commune. Dragon also headlined Boiler Room at the Mahorasop festival in 2022.

Wash Returns With New Album After a Decade Away From Music

After more than ten years away from music and DJing, Wash makes a long-awaited return to the craft with the release of a brand-new album at the close of 2024. What began as a personal reconnection with sound has grown into a full-length project, presented in three distinct parts—each one reflecting the personal growth and transformation of the past few years.

The album is a journey through genres, weaving together Downtempo, House, Bassline, Future Bass, Dubstep, Drum & Bass, and more. While the sound may differ from what fans previously knew, it embodies the freedom of exploration without boundaries.
