This week on Kongkast, we are delighted to host one of our long time friends from Sydney, Australia – Versions (Sonic Friction, Lunar Rec /Aus).

Having released tracks such as “Haze / Minor Details” on Lunar Records in 2021, Versions recently released a pair of liquid bangers for his first release on Sonic Fiction Recordings. “Feel That” brings that dubby vibe and a wobbly bassline that’ll shake even the sturdiest of sound systems! With crisp rolling beats, filtered horns and vocals stabs that could take you all the way back to Jamaica, this is one you definitely don’t want to sleep on.
With more forthcoming releases with the ;label coming in June – “Set It Free / Studio 8”, Versions is definitely making his mark in 2026 and we are sure you will hear more of him in the coming future!

This week on Kongkast, we have an Overview Music take over!
We have recently been in touch with Energy from Overview Music, as he is passing through Asia to do around of touring, flying the Overview flag. We could not be more excited about this one!

Overview began as a platform for deep, minimal drum and bass. Over the years, it has grown into a full-fledged movement that embraces a broader spectrum of sounds while staying true to its underground roots. A love story 7 years in the making, the Englishman in 2018, together with his co-founder Ollie (sub-antics) wagered there could be a platform and eventually an opening for more underground drum and bass sounds to thrive.

The stories of Peter Piper and Overview Music are inseparable.

DJ Munk has been DJing in the Sydney Drum & Bass scene for over 20 years, growing up on a wide range of musical taste from pop, rock & roll, soul, canto pop, 90s R&B & Acid Jazz.
His adult musical journey began in around 1996 with an obsession in Trip Hop with DJ Shadow, DJ Cam & DJ Krush and Mo Wax records and other downtempo vibes.
He would later discover drum & bass when curious to becoming a DJ with decks and a mixer for his 21st birthday through a chance meeting with like minded and aged DJ’s A.L.F. (RIP) & Luke S (DJ Lucian) in the late 90’s where he would begin to learn about this youthful style of music and to dedicate the rest of his lifetime to breakbeats.
He would go onto starting up Airbourne crew (aka ABSF – Airbourne Sonic Fiction) in 2002 pushing drum & bass from the atmospheric styles from the Sunday sessions, to our the harder liquid & tech step Momentum nights, as well as their infamous Old Skool Jungle parties onto the Sydney dancefloors every other month until 2005… Fast Forward to today, munk & the Airbourne crew are still together active in the scene and keeping busy in recent years still holding Old Skool Jungle & Nu Skool Jungle parties at Trocadero room in Enmore and he also involve in the new Sonic Fiction Recordings label.
2025 was a little quiet on the gig front for munk & crew, recharging for big plans for 2026.. follow him on socials to keep up to date on gigs and regular mixes…

We’re back this week with our first guest mix of the new series.
Thanks again to all of our listeners, new and old, for your kind words and messages on our social media, and of course thanks to all of you for tuning into Kongkretebass Kongkast.

This week, we have our first guest mix, and this one is personal.
Sonic Friction Recordings based out of Sydney, Australia, is a new independent Drum & Bass label dedicated to the deep, soulful, and tech-driven side of the genre. Some of the members from the label also ran a very successful crew called “Airbourne”. Some of the original junglist from that crew who first gave me (Wash), my very first DJ booking. I believe, without the encouragement and ever supporting original crew of AirBourne, and now part Sonic Friction Recordings, there would be a good chance even this Kongkast wouldn’t exist today. So it is great to see some of the OGs of Sydney Drum & Bass still rolling out some of the best Drum & Bass south of the equator.

The label showcase is mixed by Ed Gee, full of Dubplates and forthcoming releases from Vice Versa, Versions and Seltay. And for our OG Sydney Junglist listeners out there, the mix includes remixes of “Jubby” by A.L.F (r.i.p my friend) & Vice Versa. This hour of music is really as smooth as you like. It’s time to go back, to go forward.

It has been a number of years since Kongkretebass has been active in the music world.
But the music never stopped.

Yes, we are as surprised as you are, but we finallllllly are back.
It’s been a busy few years (more like 11 years), both Elemiz and Wash has been away from music for a while with life in general, but it is time that we bring back what we love – Kongkast – which many of our listeners have also asked for over the years to be returned after this short and unannounced hiatius. Wash is the co-founder of Hong Kong’s premier Drum&Bass + Dubstep promoter Kongkretebass + Kongkast along side partner in crime Electronic Mistress (Elemiz), a Hong Kong based organisation which has been pushing the limits and boundaries in every angle possible promoting music events, website, as well as Asia’s biggest drum & bass/dubstep podcast in the region since 2006.
