More info about D.A :

D.A (Daniel Clarke aka Urban Enigma) is an international musician, producer, and industry entrepreneur. Born in White Plains, NY, but emigrated to South East London as a small child. His formative years in the UK involved listening to and DJ’ing on London’s pirate radio airwaves and deeply immersing himself in the Rave, Hardcore and Breakbeat music scenes of the era.

D.A cut his teeth as a teenage bedroom producer. By day he produced TV commercial/advertising jingles for famous British brands, and by night was relying on his gregarious nature to talk his way into legendary venues such as the Ministry of Sound, Hippodrome (nights run by DJ Chris Paul), Astoria and Equinox, rubbing shoulders with what some would now regard as many of the ‘founding fathers’ of the Breakbeat, Jungle, and later Drum & Bass scenes. Seeing this new musical experience unravel and develop right before his eyes, D.A immediately fell in love, and pledged a vow to become deeply involved as a facilitator and influencer in underground music.

Between 1995 and 1999 D.A locked himself in his studio for a 4 year stint while also completing his Audio Engineering degree at the flagship SAE Music Institute in London. His first dabble with music management was setting up the ‘Dire Productions’ – a record label which later became NexGen Music. During this self-imposed Ê»lock-inʼ period, D.A explored and experimented with producing and discovering new music styles. A pivotal moment during his retreat was the discovery of a CD compilation in a 1998 issue of DJ Mag. The compilation contained quality tracks by top artists in the Downtempo, Chill and Deep House genres. Labels represented on the CD included Chez, Naked Music and Nu Wave Music. These new influences expanded D.Aʼs nascent musical horizons, inspiring him to expand into genres including like Downtempo, Chill-out, Nu / Future Jazz, Deep House, Tech House, Electro, and later Dubstep.

In 2001 D.A rebranded the label as ‘NexGen Music’ with a threefold mission – to showcase the depth and diversity of the electronic music genre and sub-genres; to counteract the barriers-to-entry D.A had personally experienced with other record labels as an aspiring producer; and to provide a community for experimentation and collaboration between new and established talent.

This approach soon had NexGen representing leading industry producers and DJs like: DJ Chris Paul, creator and promoter of Orange Raves, one of the UKʼs biggest Jungle/Rave organizations, and the producer of ʻTomʼs Dinerʼ by Suzanne Vega, as a member of the band DNA which hit #1 on the singles charts in 3 countries, #2 on the UK Singles charts, and #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other legends NexGen represents include Earth Leakage Trip ʻELTʼ (Neil Sanford & Tony Lobue), one of the original pioneers of Hardcore and Techno with their inaugural release of the ʻPsychotronic EPʼ on the award-winning Moving Shadow record label back in 1991. ELT have also made appearances on Rising High Records and Orbitalʼs ʻBack To Mineʼ Collection.

In 2003 D.A moved the label across the Atlantic spending several years in Brooklyn, NY, prior to relocating to Washington, DC. With an expanding catalogue of musicians and artists, D.A successfully secured a number of placements for NexGen music across film, TV and the interactive entertainment industries. Clients include the BBC, Lionsgate Films, OTC Films, and major TV shows including Top Chef.

D.A has become an active figure within the Washington, DC nightlife scene, in-demand as both an industry spokesman, DJ and producer. He has appeared as a panelist at various industry conferences, and has forged partnerships with nationally recognized DC music brands like the 930 Club, U Street Music Hall. D.A is also a regularly sought after entertainment DJ current signed to the renowned Andy Kushner Entertainment, and Everything Entertainment corporate and special event agencies. He also co-organizes the rapidly growing DC Electronic Dance Meet- Up Group. The group has a network of over 1,500 members and is at the nexus of DCʼs vibrant electronic dance music community in Washington, DC. The groupʼs inclusive, “no ego” philosophy provides fertile ground for the areaʼs ever-expanding dance music scene.

D.Aʼs entrepreneurial ambitions grow day by day, however, each success reminds him to redouble his commitment to creating a local and international family of NexGen musicians, artists, and producers.
