Fast forward three years and Stray’s productions have been championed by such drum and bass luminaries as Goldie, Rockwell, Alix Perez, Calyx and Teebee, as well as earning him the attention of BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, resulting in the release of ‘Break your Legs’ on his Brownswood Records imprint last year.

Check out Stray’s upcoming release on Warm Communications, featuring Halogenix  The Pursuit b/w Poison is two of the most forward thinking drum & bass tracks yet to come from Stray, as well as Halogenix. (for those who might remember, Halogenix was a recent guest on Kongkast #162).

Month of Dresden Week 5: Kongkast # 173 – feat. High Finesse / Dresden, Germany

This is it, the  final edition of our “MONTH OF DRESDEN” series is here. The weather has turned quite hot in Dresden over the last few days, and from where ever you are tuning in, you might just be able to catch some of that sweaty summer vibe in this mix by local crew High Finesse.

High Finessehave come together as a big musical family just over a decade ago, and are today well-known across the region for their diverse Fusion-Jungle sound. Together they have hosted numerous events, have run their own little club (the now defunct Galerie Disko), and are currently pushing a series of genre-bending larger scale events that bring together Drum & Bass and Techno.

While High Finesse are busy looking for a new home for their family club dreams, they keep on playing the music they (and we all) love.

Now listen in and enjoy. Happy summer, everyone!

Thanks to Fabian Leuchtmann & Corn Flex for representing HIGH FINESSE on KONGKAST.

About High Finesse:
High Finesse Bass Travels is a family-style Drum & Bass and Fusion-Jungle crew from Dresden, Germany. Active members are at the moment: Fabian Leuchtmann, Corn Flex, Tomtastic, Sirius, Albreax, Sam Francesco, Luke Gooding, Singin’ Paula Herself.

The crew was founded in June 2001, organising some famous-infamous genre-crossing parties in a venue called Pentacon (no joke, only one letter saved them from becoming imperialists, back then). Since almost all members had already been friends before, at that time High Finesse was nothing more than just a name they had to come up with in order to be recognized in town. For them, organising parties was basically about combining two things they liked to do: hanging out with friends and playing any kind of good jungle music.

This all became a bit more serious by the end of 2007 when they got the chance to take over Dresden’s legendary little club „Galerie Disko“. Suddenly, they were responsible for something more that just their crew, something with more importance – not only to them but to almost the entire electronic music scene in Dresden. During great 1,5 years of running this venue they saw how easy genre borders could disappear in people’s heads when the atmosphere is right. That was an inspiring time of growth – as a crew and with other crews from bass music right up to house and techno.

Since the forced closure of Galerie Disko High Finesse, have been looking for a new music playground. Meanwhile, they continue running the weekly BASSKUSCHELN night on Thursdays at bar BON VOYAGE, where different crews and Djs get to showcase their smoother bass music delicacies. What’s more, High Finesse have initiated a series of larger events under the name of DEPROGRAMMING, where they strive to take down the walls between Techno and Drum & Bass – as it used to be in Dresden in the 90s.

Style-wise the crew draws from a big spectrum and like to play anything from fluffy sunset sessions to hypnotic, rolling and pumping joyrides. It can basically be anything going by the name Drum & Bass, Jungle or Dubstep. Stereotypical pigeonholing hurts, so they rather don’t do it.

Month of Dresden Week 1: Kongkast # 169 – feat. T.Low Rock (Buschfunk.org / Dresden, Germany)

Check this out, as we continue our expedition through the German bass music landscape, we have created a theme within a theme! 🙂

For the month of June, KONGKAST presents to you a very special series on a very special city – DRESDEN! Our “MONTH OF DRESDEN” features 5 exclusive mixes from DJs/crews, representing this city’s sound.  First in the series is a well-respected all-round deejay T.Low Rock, co-founder of the infamous Buschfunk Radio Show.

Not long after discovering his love for music at the age of 13, T.Low Rock started his deejaying career with tape decks at school parties. This was around the year 1989, marking the late GDR days in East Germany (for a bit of history: there once was a huge concrete wall dividing Gemany). Throughout the many years, T.Low Rock has been influenced by lots of different genres from Old School Electro, Rap, Hip Hop and early Breakbeat, to Funk and Soul, later in the 90’s Downbeat, Jungle and Drum’n’Bass. With such diverse interests and influences since his early music days, T.Low Rock took to the airwaves and started his own Radio Show “Buschfunk” alongside good friends and Dresden Music Figures STUDIO17 and ARND, almost 20 years ago.

It’s a great pleasure to have T.Low Rock on KONGKAST. We are pretty sure you’ll enjoy his selection!

More info about T.Low Rock:

Words from T.Low Rock:

“I started listening to music when I was about 13 – which was somewhere around the year 1986. It was very hard for us Eastern German kids (or officially called the “GDR”) to collect music. At that time I recorded lots and lots of Hip Hop and 80’s stuff from the radio. There was only one very good youth radio station called DT64 that was broadcasted all over the republic. Somehow I started to play some music with tape decks on school parties around the year 1989.
When the wall went down I started to build my own record collection and DJing with lots of Old School Electro, Rap, Hip Hop and early Breakbeat, some Funk and Soul, later in the 90’s there was of course Downbeat, Jungle and Drum’n’Bass. In the early 2000’s I lost my interest into Drum’n’Bass because for me there was very little development. That’s when I started listening to IDM and Electronica. My favorite label back then was MERCK Records from Miami, FL. But when Dubstep came up around 2005 here in Germany I was really flashed. This brought me back to Drum’nBass, I’m a bigbig fan of Drumfunk and Breakbeat but I also like the Halfstep and Autonomic sound.
Today I still love to play all the stuff I collected over the years like Old School Electro, 80’s Rap or Latin Freestyle but also Electronica, 90’s Downbeat or Dubstep from the 2000’s.
Together with some friends I run a radio show called “Buschfunk” since 1993. Our website is http://www.buschfunk.org – the latest shows you can find under http://soundcloud.com/buschfunk ”
