Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Strauss,… ring a bell?

With a long history and tradition in culture, Austria – the small German speaking country in the heart of Europe, has been the birthplace of many famous composers. Its capital city Vienna is regarded an important centre of musical innovation – until today as it seems!

Fast forward to the 21st century, snooping around in the Austrian Drum and Bass scene brings to light an exciting modern breed of composers, such as this week’s KONGKAST artist – production duo Dkay and Rawfull aka ILLSKILLZ.

Dkay and Rawfull started their IllSkillz project back in 2001, while being part of Vienna’s trife.life! crew. Two years later, their very own their record label ill.skillz_recordings was launched. They have produced a number of tracks for labels such as Metalheadz, Virus, Renegade Hardware, Moving Shadow, Sanctuary and Universal. And for 5 years now, ILLSKILLZ have also been hosting their weekly club night “Beat It” in Vienna.

Signed on labels such as Renegade Hardware, Viper Recordings , Technique, Uprising, Sudden Def, Mainframe Recordings, Camo & Krooked has seen huge success since their early days, with more releases in the pipeline coming out on Hospital, Breakbeat Kaos, Beta, Audio Porn not to forget their massive “Vampires VIP” featured on the “Drum & Bass Arena – Anthems 2009” Compilation, Camo & Krooked aren’t intending to leave this highly effective path!

This week KONGKAST presents you an ultra special showcase mix from one of our favorite new labels – the Bristol based UTOPIA MUSIC (UK) – represented by label owner/Dj/producer MAKO.

Since our first encounter with Mako in 2006, after a smashing gig for the Hong Kong headz, Kongkretebass has become an early supporter of his music and his cause. With tunes like “In The Raw” and “Connexion” getting regular air play at our local gigs and on Kongkast, not to mention the success these tracks celebrated with airplay on BBC’s Radio One shows.

The Utopia Music label has evolved from a vision with the hugely successful Bristol club night/ charity event called ‘Utopia’, hosting the scene’s high profile deejays/producers all for a good cause.

Utopia Music’s debut in September earlier this year features Break – Natural Progression as well as Mako & AndySkopes – In The Raw (D Bridge Remix) on the flip side. With a debut release already supported by LTJ Bukem, Doc Scott, Fierce, Makoto, Bailey, Loxy, Total Science, SpectraSoul, DJ Lee, Flight, Instra:mental, Survival just to name a few, Utopia Music looks promising to be making a lot of noise in the coming years! So keep your eyes peeled for more big releases from this fresh label.

Kongkast #101 goes deep………. Kewl! Did someone mention that our Kongkast BIG 100 Party in Hong Kong feat. GOTH-TRAD was off the hook?!?!

After a quick holiday recovery (well… sort of), we’re back online with the big double digit KONGKAST edition! That’s right, KONGKAST – Hong Kong’s DNB podcast is now 100!!!

Firstly, we want to thank all of our special guest Deejays/Producers who have spent their time and effort and blessed our listeners  with their best, freshest and tastiest Drum and Bass and Dubstep music.

It has been a fun trip on a long road since we started broadcasting DJ mixsets back in 2006. The KONGKAST listenership has grown with every episode, encouraging us to keep pushing on. It has without doubt been an interesting journey for us at Kongkretebass, and a great opportunity to connect with many talented musicians from across the board.

BIG LOVE also goes out to all our listeners from around the world. There are several ten’s of thousands of bass lovers who download each (!) episode. LARGE UP to you all!

Yes Yes! We are back with yet another heavy weight Drum and Bass mix. At Kongkretebass, we always try to deliver different flavors of Drum and Bass (and Dubstep) – and this week’s mix does just that.

With the KONGKAST #97 Special we bring you a mash-up style mix from one of the most prolific deejays in the scratch and turntablism scene – KID FRESH.

No stranger to big stages and pumped-up crowds, German DJ Kid Fresh of the uberrespected Lordz Of Fitness crew, is proud holder of 3 World ITF DJ champion titles and 5 national DMC/ITF titles. Now based in Hong Kong, Kid Fresh has been making waves in the club land alongside DJ Enso with their enormously popular “Pimpin’ Aint Easy” and “Hype Nasty” club nights.

Since Kid Fresh wow-ed us with a Drum & Bass/ Mash up set as a surprise guest at last year’s Kongkretebass’ JungleBells 2008, we have been looking forward to featuring him in a KONGKAST special. Here you go – a journey from jungle and dnb to dubstep for y’all – Kid Fresh stylin’!

KONGKAST is 100! Our immensely popular podcast that was started by Kongkretebass DJ Wash 3 years ago, is going to see its 100th episode broadcast to the world this September.

In celebration of the KONGKAST BIG 100, we’re throwing ourselves a party here in Hong Kong. And you’re invited!

Our very special guest for this night is GOTH-TRAD. Considered to be Japan’s Grandmaster in electronic dub music, GOTH-TRAD has released numerous tracks on both Japanese and European labels, including Mala’s mighty Deep Medi Musik label. As an ambassador for the Asian sound he is highly recognised internationally – and to date is the only Asian artists to be invited to play at the UK’s legendary DMZ – the original dubstep parties.
