Red Bull Music Academy ‘On The Floor’ – Artist session Hong Kong

Update: The info session was recorded by local independent music station Radio Dada. Available for streaming here.

The talk is between DJ Siesta (Dnb DJ/ promoter from Shanghai), Gold Mountain (Hip Hop Mc), ST (electronica producer), Simon Griff (electronica musician) and Dj Yeodie (mixed styles DJ). They mainly exchange their opinions about the challenges of promoting and delivering non-mainstream music to a small audience in Hong Kong – a tough ground for developing music culture. We are looking forward to the next session of ‘On The Floor’ already, with (hopefully) another round of diverse music makers and a bit more talk on the positive sides of music cultivation in this city.

Attention Hong Kong electronic music makers – a free mini Red Bull Music Academy Session will take place in Hong Kong this evening.

The ‘RBMA – On The Floor’ is a global initiative, to encourage music exchange between established artists and newcomers who want to learn from them. Attendees can ask the panel of guest artists about their advice and experiences in music life, and share their ideas.

“This is a spin-off of the RBMA,” says Eric Thain, Red Bull Asia’s Communications Director. “There will be 3 [events] held in Hong Kong / Macau this year, as part of a regional campaign (others in Taiwan and Singapore). The selection of artists is based on their genres as well as history of working with the RBMA.”

If you plan to attend the session on May 7th, send an email with your name to:  eric.thain@hk.redbull.com

ABOUT OUR GUESTS – this May
——————————————————–

Blood Dunza XYZ Dj Prepare

BLOOD DUNZA
(✘ Friday, 14th May – Abstrakt, 8-bit, glitchy beats)
… is a Hong Kong grown musician, DJ and producer. He is also known as the master mind behind the HEAVY sound system which recently celebrated 4 years of pushing Reggae, Dubstep and Drum & Bass sounds to mass-enjoyment. Besides show-casing international guests, his events have also always offered a platform for fresh DJs breaking into the scene.

In the past years, BLOOD DUNZA has taken his music to cities allover China, Singapore and Taiwan, with Dj performances best known to be ranging from fast-pace, techy, dance-floor geared drum and bass sets to vibing dubwise and reggae sounds.

We’re pleased to have lured BLOOD DUNZA to SONIC STEP SISTERS on May 14th, where he’ll be stepping up with a completely different set of abstrakt, 8-bit influenced, glitchy bass beats. Get to know!

DJ PREPARE
(✘ Friday, 28th May – glitch-hop, future beats, chilled dubstep)
… cut his teeth as the party DJ in clubs across Swansea / UK. In the 6 years of spinning and perfecting his technique to a fine art, he has performed alongside: Dj Format, Dj Vadim & Yarah Bravo, Fingathing, Headcase Ladz, Klashnekoff & Dj Skully, Lazymuthafuckaz, Mark Rae, Scratch Perverts, … and more. Upon his return to Hong Kong, DJ PREPARE teamed up with MC YAN’s Fu©kin Music crew, and has been collaborating and performing on numerous music projects on record and on stage since.

(“I first caught DJ PREPARE on-air whilst listening to independent Hong Kong ‘Radio Dada’ last year. In one of the shows he presented some UK bass sounds including Dubstep. Intriguing enough for me at the time, as – in a scene the size of ours – like minded bass lovers cross paths easily, but we hadn’t…” ELEMIZ)

For SONIC STEP SISTERS on May 28th, DJ PREPARE will be bringing a selection of glitch-hop, future beats and chilled dubstep to the floor. Beats & Bass – Precious! – Free Fu©kin Music mixtapes: http://fkmusic.org/fuckinmusic.html

Kongkretebass Presents: Kryptic Minds (Osiris Music UK, Swamp81, Tectonic / UK) ‘One Of Us’ Album Tour @ Backstage, HK – Sat, 10.04.2010

Hong Kong’s bass music cultivators, Kongkretebass, are back this spring with another forward thinking booking! On Saturday, 10th April we will introduce one of the freshest rising producers on the UK Dubstep horizon, KRYPTIC MINDS.

With their new album release ‘One of Us’ on Loefah DMZ’s new label ‘Swamp 81’, Kryptic Minds are taking the Dubstep scene by storm. With their unique definition of the sound (“We’ve never felt that the music we produce is necessarily drum and bass or dubstep or trip hop.”) the album’s fresh take on stripped down sub-loaded beats is hailed and supported by the leading figures in the scene such as DMZ (Loefah, Mala, Coki), Youngsta, N-Type, Distance and Skream and more.

Kryptic Minds have recently scored nominations in several categories of the ‘Dubstepforum Awards 2010’. The LP ‘One of Us’ taking 2nd place for ‘Best Album’ (4th place – Best Producer / 9th place – Best Remix / 4th place – Best Mix) and their releasing label ‘Swamp 81’ winning the ‘Best New Label’ category.
