New Drum & Bass Music mix: Kongkast # 220 – feat. Blackie (Syndicate / Beijing, China)

This week, we are delighted to have one of Beijing’s top Drum & Bass DJs back on Kongkast for another exclusive mix –  Blackie (Syndicate / Beijing, China). For those who are familiar with his name will know already that you’re in for a treat for the next hour! but for those who don’t, we guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Earlier this year, Kongkretebass’ Wash had the pleasure being hosted by Blackie, Clir and Kay C, and playing for the Syndicate family in Beijing. At one of the best underground venues called “Dada Beijing” – and let me tell you, Beijing is one of the wildest cities in China for Drum & Bass! Blackie and the Syndicate Sessions guys have worked hard at getting Drum & Bass where it’s at today in Beijing & China, and you can tell that it’s paying off. Amazing crowd, and fantastic vibes all night, and we can not saying enough that if you’re in Beijing or in the area, definitely check out the Syndicate sessions parties and Dada Beijing if you have the chance.

As well as their regular events, Syndicate also run their own Drum & Bass Podcast  – a diverse range of DnB tempo from the rollers to the dance floor bangers. You can check it out from their Facebook site - https://www.facebook.com/syndicatebass

Many thanks to Blackie for this exclusive mix!

More info about PHIL TANGENT:

The few years have been an exciting time for Phil Tangent to say the least. Thanks to Bailey, Billie’s Smile, produced in 2009 received numerous plays on BBC 1Xtra. Due to the positive feedback, Bailey brought the track to the attention of Marcus Intalex culminating in Phil’s first release on Soul:R and propelling him firmly into the Drum & Bass scene.

The 12” received great support from respected DJ’s and producers alike; Klute, Lenzman, Doc Scott, DJ Hype, Fabio, Random Movement, Presha, A Sides and DJ Lee to name a few, not forgetting the aforementioned Bailey and Marcus Intalex.

Phil attributes his parents’ record collection to the development of his musical style, growing up listening to a melting pot of genres including soul, reggae and world music. However, it was to be on his journeys to school listening to his Sony Walkman where he would find his true musical calling and the vehicle for where all his influences could be melded together as one.

Through listening to early LTJ Bukem mix tapes, he discovered Drum and Bass was the versatile arena where he could combine everything he loved about music and the way it could take you to another place.

Aside from production, Phil’s undeniable obsession with djing continues into its 15th year. Phil has been fortunate enough to fulfil a lifelong dream playing Fabric’s Room 2 for Marcus’ 21 Album launch in 2011 and playing at Soul:ution at Sun & Bass (Sardinia, Italy) in the same year.

Having released on such an influential label as Soul:R, Phil is steadily building on his initial success. The future is yet to be written, but is set to be a busy one as he goes from strength to strength.

Kongkast 216 featuring: Semper-Fi (Foreigndub / Aus) – A former Toronto (Canada) native and now Sydney resident made his way to Australia in 1998 bringing along a battered drum kit, some killer ragga jungle vinyl, rave inflicted tinnitus and a Music Engineering School degree.
With a formidable reputation as a skilled DJ and producer in the local drum n’ bass, hip-hop, dubstep, reggae, dub and any other bass style currently vying for a micro-genre scene. A regular face in the Sydney DJ circuit, Semper-Fi can be seen performing at nights including Basscode, Blueprint, DNBBQ, Void, his own infrequent Jungle Genius nights and numerous raves over the years. DJ Semper-Fi returns with his second track from the upcoming Shock Doctrine EP on Foreigndub. In the late 00’s he teamed up with Philadelphia’s MC Halfcast and the pair released a self-titled EP seamlessly melding hip-hop, dancehall and drum n’ bass. More info about FRANJAZZCO:

As he tends to keep things low and is not too keen on any sort of hype shit, you might not have recognized him yet – though, Franjazzco (formerly known as Franz „Jazzin“ Otto) has definitely been one of the most passionate and enthusiastic players in Vienna’s underground dance music scene within the last decade.

Franjazzco’s been doing his thing on the ones and twos since way back in 1995. Besides being a DJ, the past has also seen him as event promoter, radio host, editor and recently especially as a producer. Whilst Franjazzco covers a wide range of musical genres as a DJ, ranging from Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop to House, Techno and various styles of Bass music, he’s mostly dedicating his productions to Chicago’s sound of Juke and Footwork.

His tracks have recently been released on Disko404 records and the World Wide Juke compilations and earned massive feedback by the likes of DJ Rashad, Machinedrum, Distal, Chrissy Murderbot or RP Boo. Further releases and his own label Footwork Frenzy are about to come in the near future.

Wash continues to push his studio work with productions and remix projects of his own deep, dark, tech-style sounds in the genres of Drum & Bass and Bass Music.

The Hong Kong producer has released music not only in China, but in Europe and America. His first release came in the form of a remix, where was asked by renowned Czech Republic’s Trash Pop band “100°C“ on “INDIESCOPE Records” to remix for their album “Brunt Rock” released in 2008. Since having relocated to Germany in early 2012, his sound was quickly noticed by the local peers, and his first release can be found on a Dresden, Germany local CD Compilation called – Musik Freunde Kumpilation. This was released in June 2012.
Since the start of 2013, Wash has had a string of releases signings worldwide. Within Asia, his second release for fast rising China based label “Rankadank Recordings” called “Equilibrium EP, as well as his debut release “Magnitude EP” on high profile USA Drum & Bass / Dubstep Label – “Section 8 Recordings”. This followed up with a Dubstep release on their sister label “Section 8 Bass”. Both releases instantly left a mark on the label, since then Section 8 have picked up a third release called “Dreamscape EP”.
